A Colorful Big Boy Room

Working with children is such a fun and inspiring job! Whenever I have the opportunity to design a kid's space I am overjoyed and usually my brain is flooded with ideas. This particular 7 year old boy had one request for his new space, orange and red! So, I got busy making his wish a reality.

The only change we are making is swapping the aqua herringbone fabric for a navy herringbone. His mom wanted drapery that would easily transition if he wanted to switch things up later on.

The room is being painted a gorgeous shade of gray in the coming weeks, then the fun begins! Stay tuned!

Meet Elyse

This is the new sophisticated look for kid's spaces. Goodbye Bubblegum and Fuchsia! Hello Coral!

This new Elyse bedding collection at PB Kids is so darling! It's a vintage Indian print combined with paisley and elephants. Lock up your wallet when browsing because you will be so tempted!

I'm even contemplating a few pieces for Ava's big girl room. I originally only purchased one set of sheets, so a second set is necessary! Totally justifiable!

Her walls are painted a pale aqua, so the coral will be a nice switch from her existing bubblegum,  polka dot sheet set!

And, how cute is this side table?

Love the whitewashed finish!

I browsed around and also found a few stunning beds that are new! Several unexpected pieces that I love! They look more like a RH piece than PB Kids.

What do you think of the new bedding? Are you a fan or coral in a kid's space?

Radiant Orchid

I have to admit when Pantone announced their color of the year, I was less than thrilled! Radiant Orchid is not one of the most commonly used colors in home decor! In fact, I think it is probably one of the least popular colors.

Even with Pantone's announcement and popularity of the color growing, I have yet to jump on the bandwagon where home decor is concerned! There is purple in my wardrobe, my polish collection, and I even wear purple eye shadow. But, something about outfitting my home in purple reminds me of a throwback to the 80's. Just not digging it yet, except in very small doses!

Do you see this color fitting into your home? Here are 3 tips on how to incorporate this trend if you're unsure or scared of taking the plunge!

How gorgeous is the Radiant Orchid paired against an all neutral space? I love the oversized art! The pop of color makes it such a statement piece!

Purple is definitely not meant to be the center of my universe! I would easily tire of the color!

Not sure bold is for me, although the orange pairs quite well with the creams and orchid.

Have I convinced you yet that this is the new "it" color? If so, which way would you use Radiant Orchid in your space?

The Next Best Color?

While I'm still loving Emerald as Pantone's color of the year, I'm finding myself drawn to shades of purple recently.

I am especially liking pale shades such as lavender or lilac paired with grays and neutrals. This is a color that I have not used in my own home yet, but could see it happening in small doses to add a feminine touch.

Is is possible that a shade of purple could be the next best thing? Maybe we will see a plum or lavender as the next color of the year? It would be refreshing!

Here are some lovely images of purple done right!

Have I convinced you yet? Is there any purple in your future?

Going Green

Are you going mad for malachite? What a great color trend! I just picked up the Malachite Tory Suede flats to add a dose of color to my fall wardrobe.

And if you aren't into wearing green, how about adding it to your home?

How fabulous is the malachite on the walls?

I'll take the lamps please!

These emerald drapes are stunning!

The small doses of green pop against the neutral sofa.

Velvet and green...

Do you have any malachite or emerald in your home? It is the Pantone color of the year you know!

Hello Jonathan Adler

Have I been living in a hole or what? I just discovered Jonathan Adler's new Happy Chic line for JC Penny. I opened up Pinterest this morning and there were many of his new items being pinned. I quickly switched over and started perusing the colorful and pattern packed items.
There are many accessories I would like to own, but in all honesty, the kitchen collection might be my favorite. The white greek key items are making me drool along with the gray napkins. Seems like a trip to JC Penny might be in my near future!

Are any of these items catching your eye?

Pantone's Fall Colors

Pantone announced their fall colors and I couldn't be loving them more.

Here's how they pair up and translate into interiors:

French Roast and Bright Chartreuse

Honey Gold and Olympian Blue

Pink Flambe' and Titanium

Tangerine Tango and Rhapsody

Ultramarine Green and Rose Smoke

Aren't they just lovely?

Which pairing would you most likely use in your home?

Shut The Front Door

Are you gutsy enough to paint your front door a bright and bold color? Or, are you more traditional and prefer muted tones?

Mint Green Crush

Have you moved past Kelly and welcomed Mint yet? It's the new hue of green that I'm crushing on. With spring in the air, this soft green will get any one excited to add color into their world. It adds a fresh feel to any space or outfit and can be paired with a variety of colors. Here's a whimsical Greenwich Village apartment where mint green is used throughout to create a fairy-tale inspired feel. See for yourself.

And now on to other mint green inspiration:

Red and Pink Galore

In celebration of this Hallmark created holiday called Valentine's Day, we will celebrate with red and pink galore! I find this color combo to be so feminine and romantic. It always excites me when January nears because the red and pink starts to appear on shelves. I get all giddy inside. Maybe it reminds me of the color of roses. I mean, who doesn't love roses or any other kind of fresh flowers?!

HAPPY HEART DAY!

Pretty Party

This party is just downright gorgeous! Ok, well it's a staged party for Jill Rosenwald and Lawrence McRae's ad campaign for the NYC gift show, but nonetheless divine! I'd love to own some of the pieces shown like the chevron dessert plates or the monogram tray. We all know how obsessed I am with trays. Plus, it has an "R". It's a sign that I'm meant to have it! If Jill wants to just send it my way she'd be a doll!

Oh, I could just die over this color combo! This vignette is speaking to me! Erin Gates you did a great job styling it up right!

Green with Envy

Have you jumped on the kelly green bandwagon yet? Our mud room in the making hosts a bit of it. I'm loving these splashes of the color. Drapes in this hue are especially to die for!

So, are you green with envy yet?
