Gifts Galore

The season of spreading cheer and giving is upon us.  There's nothing I enjoy more than thinking up the perfect gift, shopping for it, wrapping it beautifully, and watching a smile emerge on the recipient's face as they unwrap it. But, thinking up the perfect gift can be a daunting task.
I decided to take the brain work out of the gifting, and asked several of my favorite bloggers for help in this department. Each will be sharing their favorite holiday gift picks so you can skip right to the shopping.
I decided to kick off the series with picks of my own suitable for just about any woman in your life!

Organized Christmas Gift List

With only a month until Christmas, I decided a list was in order before I hit the shops today. We take our dear sweet time making Christmas gift lists for the nice, but somtimes we forget to check them twice. This year instead of using my not so trusty anymore mind, I made a very organized list thanks to a darling printable I found on Pinterest. It gives the exact categories I need to stay on top of shopping and my budget. It will even help me keep track of what items have been wrapped and buried under the tree. This printable might even come in handy for your gift needs this year! Happy Black Friday shopping! Time to hit the stores!

Come back Monday for holiday gift ideas as I kick off Gifts Galore including some of your favorite bloggers!

Black Friday {The Plan}

Are you a crazy bargain shopper like I am? If so, then I'm sure you are hitting the stores late Thursday night to rack up some Black Friday deals. Last year my friend and I went to Target and Wal-Mart at 4:00 a.m. and got some pretty good finds. This year, the stores decided to open up late Thursday night. I definitely prefer to stay up late than get up early to shop! Plus, it gives me extra time to eat work off the food.

Here's the plan:
9:00- Leave house to get in line at Wal-Mart
10:00- Run like crazy to get what I need
11:00- Get in line at Target
12:00- Make a mad dash to grab what I need
1:00- Hide the gifts and hit the hay

Here's some items on my radar!

Mainly, I need the tv for the hubs!  The other items I can do without if I can't get my hands on them. Even if I didn't need anything at all I would brave the Black Friday crowds for the mere excitement of the season and to see people going crazy and grabbing everythign in sight.

Are you bravig the crowds? Do you have a shopping list?

Our Thanksgiving Table

Our dining room rarely gets used, so I especially wanted the table to look festive for Thanksgiving. The dining room and entry way are right across from one another so why not carry the harvest theme between spaces?! The best part is that I didn't need to purchase much because I shopped my home for items to use on the table. In fact, the only thing I purchased was pine cones.

The name cards were printed from here.

Thanksgiving Menu

With Thanksgiving just days away I hope your menu is in order along with what I'm sure is a hefty grocery list if you are doing all the cooking. Our family keeps a very traditional menu that we don't often vere from.

Turkey/Dressing
Garlic Mashed Potatoes with gravy
Candied Sweet potatoes
Green Bean Casserole
Hot Buttery Rolls

I must confess that my favorite part might just be the desserts!

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food?

Makeover Monday {Decorating the Ville}

Makeover Monday is back today with Liz, another talented blogger sharing her inviting living room with us!

Hello everyone!!  I am Liz from Decorating the Ville.  I am so excited to be here at A Lived in Home, thank you Megan for having me!  My family moved into this home a little more than a year ago.  We have moved often for my husband's job, but this is the first older home that we have ever tackled.  This house is our forever home (Lord willin' and the creek don't rise!), and we can finally feel comfortable doing things to this home that we couldn't do with the others.

Today I would love to share my Living Room transformation with you.  When we looked at the home for the first time this is what the Living Room looked like:

Here is it empty:

We knew it would be a challenge to get rid of this natural oak trim in the entire house.  We are still not finished painting it!  The 8 foot ceilings also presented the challenge of making the rooms lighter, airier and more modern without having the ceiling height.

Each house we buy, we also have the challenge of buying around the belle of the ball - the elephant in the room, literally - Big Bertha the Grand Piano.

Here is the room during our furniture arrangement phase.  We had to find a place for the piano to fit, as well as keep the flow of traffic open to the dining room.  All this, while trying to keep the furniture in a nice cozy conversational grouping.

And here it is in it's current state:

We painted the walls Ashes by Behr, and all of the trim and the ceiling is painted Pure White by Sherwin Williams.  We added a piece of trim about 1 1/2 inches under the existing crown molding and painted it all white to trick the eye a bit in to seeing a much thicker molding.

We also painted horizontal stripes onto the large sofa wall to give the room a bit more dimension.  The subtle stripes are in the same color of paint, but with a high gloss sheen against the eggshell wall color.

The black and white pictures over the sofa have a special meaning to us.  They are photographs of our parents and grandparents - a wedding photo if they had one.

And that is our Living Room!  Next project, the dining room! Come on over and check out our progress, and the other finished parts of the house at Decorating the Ville!

Mirror Steal

I wanted to share with you an amazing deal I got on these mirrors. We have all seen porthole mirrors in many spaces, and I wanted a set of my own for the hallway that leads to the laundry room. Aaron Brothers has them for $19 and then 50% off!! I got them for $9.50 each.  They do have a larger size as well that retail for $29 each.

This similar mirror at West Elm retails for $49! That tells you what a bargain I got. Plus, I love the gold detailing on mine!
