Pink & Gray Nursery Mood Board

I ran across some lovely crib bedding on Serena and Lily and thought I'd throw together a mood board to incorporate it since I haven't focused on any nurseries lately. I've been busy working on client projects and have forgotten how enjoyable spaces for children are! Plus, you can never go wrong with pink and gray for a little girl's nursery. The color palette is soft, and has a classic feel.

So, what do you think? Are you a fan of using gray in a nursery? It's versatile, and gender neutral which makes the possibilities endless.

New World Market Finds

It's no secret that I love the prices, quality, and selection of products at World Market. What's even better are their sales and coupons they send out! You can get pieces that look high end without the price tag. Here are some recent items I've spotted that might catch your eye as well!

Have you been into World Market lately and seen any of these items?

Finds for the Littles

Designing children's spaces is probably my most exciting job because the ideas and possibilities are limitless. You can easily use color, and pattern to punch up any room and make it come alive. Here are a few items that I've seen recently that could work for a nursery, or a big kid room.

Would you like to incorporate any of these items into a nursery or perhaps your son/daughter's room?

Oscar Favorites

Did you watch the Oscars last night like every other person on Facebook and Instagram? I admit that I was really pumped up about them and had the channel changed right at 7:30, but it didn't last. We are no movie buffs in my household and I hadn't seen a single film that was nominated. Honestly, I thought it was quite boring and switched over to my dvr for an episode of Selling New York.

I did however switch back for the last 45 minutes or so and my favorite part of the whole show was the last act of Kristin Chenoweth and Seth MacFarlane signing to "Losers" during the closing ceremony. I thought it was pretty hilarious, although I'm sure not all the A-listers would agree with me.

Even though the show was less than stellar, the fashion had me amped up to see more. There was a wide variety of looks and colors. Here are my faves from last night.

Sandra Bullock was flawless in her lacy black Elie Saab number.

She was a lady in red, but I don't think she could have danced in this poofy skirt. As always Anniston looked classic and beautiful!

Pink and gold, yes please!!

Jennifer Garner I thought looked the best in her raspberry column Gucci gown with the dramatic ruffled train. The 2.5 million in jewels were stunning as well!

Amy Adams looked like a princess in her gray Oscar de la Renta creation.

Giuliana Rancic looks healthy and glowing in this Rafael Cennamo gown. She tends to look too skinny and pale, but this number really flatters her tiny frame!

This color on Maria Menounos and sleek fit of her Romona Keveza gown are fabulous. Her hair do bothered me though. I feel like she possbily stuck a bump it in her frock. Minus the hair, I loved the simple look.

What was your favorite Oscar look?

A Peek Into my Dining Room

My dining room has evolved entirely since we first moved in and started with a overly bright blue paint.   I can honestly say that I am finally thrilled with its current state and don't plan on making any big changes for a long time! Notice I said big changes because small ones are always in the works.

I hope you love it as much as we do!!

Have a fabulous Friday!

Meet Frances, My Fiddle

Introducing my new lover Fiddle Leaf Fig!

Thanks to a tweet from Mrs.Sugarplum yesterday, I now have a 6ft tall, drool worthy, real living plant in my dining room! She gave me the heads up that a local store of ours had 4 of these beauties just waiting for me to snag one! Now, lets just hope I don't kill it!

On the way home with our great find, my sweet, hilarious daughter wanted to name our new jewel Swiper because of her obsession with Dora the Explorer. She also thinks our next born will be named Swiper too! We will let her think what she wants even though mommy changed the name!

And speaking of on the way home, we will keep things real today and you can see how you transport a 6 ft, delicate plant home!

Yes, you squish yourself into the back of a small suv as the soil and water from the plant spill out everywhere. Thankfully I had a spare shopping bag to lessen the spillage. It was a less than comfortable ride home I might add, but totally worth it!

Tomorrow, I'll show you the rest of my "complete for now" dining room! The Fiddle Leaf was the last missing piece! I'm over the moon about this space, so come back and see!

It's Party Time!

Today is my birthday!! Do you love celebrating your special day? Do you believe in birthday weeks like I do? Technically I don't get a whole week because the hubby shares my week. His birthday was the 18th so I'm nice and I share!

I can't believe I'm turning 30, AGAIN! I'm in somewhat of a holding pattern! We are celebrating our birthdays on Friday night with all of our amazing neighborhood friends! They really do rock and we are so grateful and fortunate to have fun neighbors and such a tight group.

Today, I'm spending time with my favorite little tyke! We're headed to the nail salon for pedicures then I'm sure we'll make a trip to Target and maybe even IKEA too. All I know is everything is better with her around! I also plan on picking up some strawberries and chocolate to make dipped berries! Yum yum! Way better than cupcakes or cake!!

Easy DIY Projects

My name is Amanda Kuzak, I am a professional organizer in the San Francisco Bay Area and my blog Kuzak's Closet features my client success stories as well as adventures from my life. I was lucky enough to guest blog here at A Lived in Home back in January and I'm so happy to be back today with a little organizing DIY tutorial for all of you! Many of my clients and blog readers struggle with creating enough room to store all of their shoes in a way that keeps them organized and visible. Instead of having a pile up on the bottom of your closet or tubs to search through try my trick of storing them in clear shoe boxes with photos attached. I love how easily the bins stack up and no matter what you can SEE what is inside! Here is how you do it...

1.) Take photos of your shoes, I like to position the shoes like this so you can see the front and the side of the shoe. Use the same position for each pair of shoes and the same background so the photos look uniform after they are placed on the clear boxes.
2.) Upload your photos and print them into 3x5 prints. Tip! It is difficult to find a company that prints 3x5 anymore, I uploaded mine and ordered them in 4x6 size and then called the photo shop so they would know to adjust the prints to 3x5.
3.) Place all of the shoes in the clear shoe boxes, then match up the photos to the shoes in the box.
4.) Place the photo on the inside front of the box and adhere it with 2 pieces of tape. I always recommend putting the photo on the inside so it stays protected and the sides don't roll up.
5.) Stack the boxes on the shelf and admire your collection!
If you are reading this post and still wondering what the big deal is here is a photo of the shoes in their boxes without the photos...
and After...
Obviously now you can see how much of a difference the photos make! If you are looking for extra shoe storage give this trick a try! Here are a few more of my favorite DIY projects, I hope you will be inspired to try something new!
Thank you Megan for having me guest blog twice while you were on vacation! I hope your readers are inspired to get organized and start some creative DIY projects after this post!

Guest Post {The Little Black door}

Hi everybody! I'm Elizabeth from little black door and I'm so excited to be here today to talk about some things I've learned from my years of DIY projects. I started DIY'ing when I was 2, which is why I have so much experience but still remain so young and beautiful. :) Hopefully you can find a useful tip or two or at least can relate to some of the hard learned lessons. There is no rush. Leave the deadlines at the door. Sure, you know how long spray painting a lamp will take but when dipping your toe in a new DIY pool, don't add to the stress of the unknown by working under a randomly selected deadline. New (to you) projects are full of surprises and you can't take the time to deal with them correctly if you are rushing. As I learned when reupholstering our couch, what you think will take an afternoon can end up taking two weeks, or four. So frustrating. Especially for someone who has zero patience...that would be me.

No need to reinvent the wheel. There are tons of great tutorials out there and chances are whatever you are trying to do has been at least attempted before. Do some research (Pinterest is great for this) and read a few tutorials. Even if you don't end up following the tutorial line by line, it will at least give you an idea of what you are in for. You've got skills. Never underestimate your DIY abilities. Of the 50 or so DIY projects I tried in the past year, I would have guessed I wouldn't have been good at about 49 of them. Turns out, most turn out to be not half bad and I had a great time doing them to boot.

DIY Monogram Shams
Quick can be good. Not every project needs to be a huge undertaking. Some of my favorite DIY projects were less than 10 minutes. Like this....

Gold spray painted lampshades
Help is a good thing. Sometimes you've reached your DIY limit and you've just got to hire it out. As I learned with the chandelier, not every project is a DIY project. On the big projects, save yourself the stress and the extra money by getting the right help from the start.

Thanks for having me Megan, this was fun! Now off to Pinterest to find my next DIY project!
